QUALICOAT and QUALISTEELCOAT: WHAT CERTIFICATIONS ARE WE TALKING ABOUT?
QUALICOAT is a quality mark on aluminium for architectural applications. The organisation that manages this mark has the same name.
Having the QUALICOAT label gives value to products for architectural applications, bringing a distinct competitive advantage over competitors without the certification, emphasising clearly defined quality and performance criteria.
The main document is the “Qualicoat specification”: it defines all the theoretical notions, the decrees and requirements to be able to obtain and implement a compliant process to guarantee quality on coated aluminium. The organisation also undertakes to:
– determine the specifications for the processes, products and tests to be carried out in coating plants;
– issue licences to coating plants using the quality mark;
– monitor the correct implementation of the specifications in licensees’ coating plants.
In order to determine whether the coating meets the regulatory requirements of the Qualicoat standard, the results must be verified according to certain technical specifications, which are also standardised by Qualicoat and largely correspond to the international standards.
The inspections are carried out by registered inspectors and the tests are carried out by laboratories accredited according to ISO 17025. These laboratories and inspectors are grouped together in QUALISURFAL.
Many coating plants all over the world, like ours, are already QUALICOAT licence holders and many powder coating manufacturers and chemical suppliers already have QUALICOAT-approved systems. The entire list of certified companies can be found at https://www.qualicoat.net/
Qualisteelcoat is an international quality mark that applies to coated steel. It was created in 2006 by the QUALISTEELCOAT organisation. The aim of the association is to maintain and promote the quality standard of coated steel, by harmonising methods and processes.
Companies in many European countries have become direct or indirect QUALISTEELCOAT licensees. The general Licensee of the Qualisteelcoat mark for Italy is QUALITAL.
The purpose of QUALISTEELCOAT is to determine rules for coaters applying protective coatings on steel. The technical specifications are based on atmospheric corrosivity categories as envisaged by ISO 12944-2. This standard (parts 1 to 8) contains references to both liquid and powder coating.
Qualisteelcoat considers the atmospheric corrosivity resistance classes with the highest durability and includes them in a technical specification that is a reference point for the functional coating of steels, with which the holders of the mark must comply, as well as their finished products and the coating systems used.
The main points on which these specifications are based are:
1- Control of the different processes used for the protection of steel
2- Self-control of the coater (in relation to point 1)
3- Performance of the coating systems in relation to the Corrosivity Category
4- Inspections by Licensees
Choosing a QUALICOAT and QUALISTEELCOAT certified company means trusting a reliable partner who guarantees its process.
